Since 2002 the Powderbird team has been traveling to Greenland to explore the seemingly endless ski and snowboard opportunities. Most of Greenland lies below 1000 meters of ice, the burden so great that the island’s interior is compressed to below sea level. Around its edges the icecap spills down into thousands of glaciers, sculpting out fjords and rugged mountain ranges. It is here where the glaciers clash with the North Atlantic that we are blessed with some of the most scenic and best ski terrain on the globe.
Greenland offers big vertical, with many runs from 3,000-5,000 vertical feet! There are numerous opportunities for first descents, dry polar powder, and long ski days. We travel by boat and helicopter to the many fjords and seek out ski runs from mountaintop to seaside. The vistas boast spectacular landscapes and abundant sea life.
Our ski operations can be based out of a variety of locations, giving our clients the opportunity to choose between three unique Greenland experiences. Options include staying in a four star hotel located in the fishing community of Maniitsoq, basing on the ship Kisaq as we travel to ne heli-ski destinations along the coast, or choosing a ‘home stay’ experience in an Inuit village. Itineraries are designed to meet the needs and desires of our clients.
Intermediate and expert skiers will find the terrain and challenges they desire. On weather days, recreation options include snowmobile skiing, sea kayaking, fishing, snowshoeing, and ski touring. This experience is unlike any other ski opportunity you will find. This is a chance to ski and explore a very remote region of the world in small groups and in exclusive style.
